When you are injured due to the negligence of another, the laws in Ohio that allow you to recover are ever changing and at times complex.

You cannot rely on an insurance company to give you legal advice regarding your legal rights to recover damages, or the best way for you to proceed.

Liens and Assignments-   Certain medical providers, including chiropractors, may try to get you to sign an "assignment" or a medical "lien" before they will start treating you.  Consult an attorney before doing this.

Med-Pay -   There may be medical payments coverage or "med-pay" available under certain vehicle insurance policies to pay for your medical bills.  Sometimes it may be advisable to use this coverage, other times it may not. Consult a lawyer first.

Subrogation -  Certain third parties, including your health insurance company, medicaid and medicare, workers compensation, and the provider of your medical payments coverage may claim that they are entitled to part, or in some cases even all, of injury claim proceeds.  It is advisable that you consult an attorney regarding this.      

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists Coverage -  In some circumstances, you may be able to recover money under the uninsured or underinsured motorists coverage available under certain insurance policies.  Sometimes, people are not even aware that this coverage is available.  Consult a lawyer regarding this.

Statutes of Limitations -The law sets limits on the amount of time you have to recover money for your losses or file a lawsuit to preserve your claims.  Consult an attorney regarding this.
